Every Saturday morning, you'll get actionableĀ techniques like the article below to help you become a better impromptu speaker.

The 3 Biggest Speaking Mistakes To Avoid

    Read Time: 1 Minute

I'd highly recommend watching the 4-minute video that goes more in-depth, but the quick summary is:

    1. Avoid answering the question right away and instead give the Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) -- 0:00 - 1:10

    2. Avoid rambling and instead follow a speaking framework (PREPS) -- 1:11 - 2:48

    3. Avoid speaking in a monotone and instead give emotion through your facial expressions -- 2:49 - end

When you practice, keep these 2 things in mind:

    • Focus on fixing one mistake at a time -- don't try to do everything at once!
    • Practice in low-stakes scenarios. If, for example, your biggest mistake is that you jump straight into the answer, focus the next week on using BLUF when answering any simple question you're given in day-to-day interactions at work, at home, or with friends/family.

If you found this helpful, the Impromptu Speakers Academy is my 3-week bootcamp to help you become a clear and confident speaker at work. Reserve your spot today while they're still available.

    I hope this helps.
